Celebrating Chanukah in Bradenton, Florida

Celebrating Chanukah in Bradenton, Florida

| Sande Caplin |

It all began eight years ago. The City of Bradenton put up Christmas decorations downtown. In addition, they placed a Chanukah menorah near the old Manatee Players building. Our Temple thought it would be a great idea to hold a public Chanukah celebration by the Menorah. Nearly 50 people arrived. “We all had a great time and decided to do it again the following year” stated Robyn Spirtas, President of Temple Beth El. That is how “Downtown Chanukah” began. The crowds grew larger and the celebration became more joyous.“ There was even dancing in the street” stated past President, Sandy Clark.

Beginning this year it will be held in Lakewood Ranch. The 2018 Chanukah celebration, now called “Chanukah in the Park” will be on Sunday, December 9th at 6 p.m. at Summerfield Park, 6402 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. As in years past, there will be music, candle lighting and Chanukah treats. The public is invited and all are welcome, particularly children. There is no charge.

Temple Beth El, a Reform congregation, is proud to provide this joyous community event, in co-sponsorship by the Jewish Federation of Sarasota – Manatee. The Temple is located at 5150 Peridia Blvd E in Bradenton, just off route 70/53rd Ave. and is the Jewish congregation nearest to Lakewood Ranch.
