Person of the Year

The Suncoast Post Announces Their 2021 “Person of the Year”- Katrina Cox

| Sande Caplin |

Oh, what a year (and a half)! So much has gone on to change our lives, some good and some not so good. The team at the Suncoast Post has been choosing a “Person of the Year” for three years. The first person to receive the honor for 2018 was Betsy Halliwell Plante of the Blessing Bags Project. Chef Paul Mattison of Mattison’s Restaurants received the honor for 2019, and for 2020 the award was given to all of the residents of Manatee and Sarasota County! The folks at Visit A Paradise Realty were kind enough to receive the award virtually due to the Covid19 epidemic.

The award is usually presented in early January each year. This year because of the Pandemic and some uncertainty that still exists we wanted to share the story about this person earlier than usual. The award was given on the stage of the Swordfish Grill & Tiki during the Cortez Stone Crab and Music Festival on November 14, 2021.

There are many unsung people in the world. Many of them are right here in our community. This person is one of the unsung heroes! She is kind, giving, always there to help, and volunteers whenever needed. She is always the first one to get involved, a caring and wonderful person who always stays behind the scenes, never looking for notoriety and she is a wonderful mom.

She is also a dear friend of mine who is always there for me when needed. This year’s recipient of the 2021 Suncoast Post Person of the Year Award is Katrina Cox. Katrina is a manager at the Swordfish Grill and Tiki in Cortez, Florida. I could not think of a better person to give this award to. Anyone who know “Kat” would agree that she is so deserving of the recognition. And by the way, she would welcome you to come and visit her at the Swordfish Grill & Tiki in Cortez, Florida.

Congratulations, Kat! We are so proud of you.
