The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast is excited to announce its first live PMP Alumni: Around Town presentation of the Season with the premiere of Ysaÿe & the Organ featuring Max Tan, violin; Marisa Gupta, piano; and Chris Chen, organ on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:00 pm at Saint Boniface Episcopal Church on Siesta Key.

Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931), often referred to as the King or Tsar of the Violin had a larger-than-life personality and artistry, and left behind a legacy that continues to inspire violin playing today. Housed in the archives of The Juilliard School’s Lila Acheson Wallace Library in New York is a large collection of materials once belonging to Ysaÿe’s second wife, Jeanette Dincin Ysaÿe, including manuscripts for well-known works for violin, rearranged for violin, piano, and organ.

Violinist Max Tan, an alum of The Perlman Music Program, spent time researching these manuscripts while isolated due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “This unusual organ trio configuration is extremely rare, nearly unheard of in the chamber music repertory,” said Max. “These arrangements give us a fresh perspective on familiar works, allowing us to discover something deeper about musical expression and what moves us in the music. It is a special and humbling privilege to share these never-before-published, performed, or recorded manuscripts with the Suncoast community.”
