Sarasota County Offices and Services Closed for Holidays

Sarasota County Government offices and services will be closed Dec. 24-25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2025, in observance of the upcoming holidays. Check below for detailed updates:

Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County

  • Offices will be closed Dec. 23 – Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2025.

UF/IFAS Extension in Sarasota County

  • Offices will be closed Dec. 24-25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2025.

Transit Schedule:

 Christmas Eve (Dec. 24)

  • Breeze administration and ticket offices will be closed.
  • Breeze services (standard and touring routes, OnDemand, and Plus) will operate regular service.

 Christmas Day (Dec. 25)

  • Breeze administration and ticket offices will be closed.
  • Standard Breeze routes and Breeze Plus will be closed.
  • The 76 Flyer will operate regular service.
  • The 77 Siesta Islander and Breeze OnDemand will end service at 8 p.m.

 New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31)

  • Breeze administration, ticket offices, standard routes, 76 Flyer, and Plus service will operate regular hours.
  • The 77 Siesta Islander and Breeze OnDemand will operate extended service until 1 a.m.

 New Year’s Day (Jan. 1)

  • Breeze administration and ticket offices will be closed.
  • Breeze standard routes and Breeze Plus will be closed.
  • Touring routes and Breeze OnDemand will operate regular service.

Libraries and Historical Resources:

  • All locations are closed Dec. 24-25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2025.

Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources:

  • Recreation centers will be closed Dec. 24-25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2025.
  • Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed Dec. 23 – Dec. 26 and resume operations on Dec. 27. It will also be closed Dec. 30 – Jan. 1, 2025, and resume operations on Jan. 2, 2025. 

Solid Waste Collections: 

  • All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center, and the Chemical Collection Centers will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2025.
  • The Central County Landfill and the Citizens’ Convenience Center will remain open until 5 p.m. on Dec. 28, and Jan. 4 due to the holiday collection schedule. The Construction and Demolition (C&D) area will close at 2 p.m. those days. All hand unloads must arrive at least 30 minutes before closing.
  • The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office, and The Re-Uz-It Shop, 8750 Bee Ridge Road, the Central County Landfill administrative office will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
  • The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center remains closed indefinitely due to impacts from Hurricane Ian.
  • Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection schedule
  • Curbside collection services for trash, recycling and yard waste will run as follows. Because collection times vary, residents should place materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup. 
  • Monday, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30 – no changes
  • Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 – no changes
  • Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2025 – no collection services
  • Thursday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, 2025 – collection for Wednesday customers
  • Friday, Dec. 27 and Jan. 3, 2025 – collection for Thursday customers 
  • Saturday, Dec. 28 and Jan. 4, 2025 – collection for Friday customers
