Paradise Lost, Commissioners Approve Aqua by the Bay- A Sad Day for Our Kids, Grand Kids and Great Grand Kids

| Sande Caplin |

As reported by most of the news outlets in our community, Aqua by the Bay is a go- it has been approved by the Manatee County Commissioners. It’s a revised plan that no longer includes the man-made estuary and retaining wall along with other concessions.

I am not writing to post the details of the plan. You can read about that in the other publications. Also, I don’t want to take away the thunder from Rose Lipke who will be writing a detailed story about this next week.

While I understand there are legal ramifications if the project was not approved, I am hurt and scared of how it will affect our Kids, Grand Kids and Great Grand Kids. Things like water run-off, flooding (like in Houston), trimming Mangroves for better views will all effect the quality of life for future generations. In my mind, I can already hear the bull-dozers taking down trees and destroying our beautiful landscape.

Hopefully, there will be “watchdogs” to minimize the damage to our environment.  Love and peace to you all.
