Grego

Our Community Lost a Wonderful Friend Today

| Sande Caplin |

It’s a sad day in our community.  We lost a great, kind, loving, caring friend.  From Greg’s wife Kathy’s post on Facebook today-  With deep regret we have to inform you that Greg passed away Wednesday, February 22.  He will be deeply missed by all of us. Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.  Peace, Love and Use Your Turn Signals. Love, Koeper Family.

Greg Koepper, “Grego” was loved by many.  I can see that grin on his face right now.  He did so much for our community.  Of course many of you remember him from the “Grego’s” days when he owned a really cool place in Cortez, Florida. For many years he was a Manager at the Swordfish Grill and Tiki in Cortez.  That’s where I got to know him so well.  No one had a bigger heart than Greg.

Greg ran the weekly “Crab Races” at the Swordfish Grill every Tuesday and it became one of the biggest events of the week!  A few years back, three of my grandboys came to visit.  Greg took time out of a busy night, brought all three over to the crab tank and gave them a lesson about crabs!  They still remember that evening today!

He loved the Bucs and Lightning!  During the NFL season, just about every Monday morning he would text me and console me after another NY Jets loss.  A week before the Super Bowl when I went to see him, he reminded me that the Jets were last in the Super Bowl in 1969.  Thanks, Greg!

He was a key person in creating the “Nancy Franklin Memorial Golf Tournament.  He loved the event and so enjoyed getting the event going every year.

If you’re out and about in the Bradenton / Cortez / AMI area today, have a toast to Greg and a few laughs about him.  That’s what he would want.

Oh, one more thing that Greg would want.  Hug a friend today.  Hug a loved one today.  And, if there is someone in your life who you’ve had a disagreement with- call them today and fix whatever is broken.  Life is just too short to squabble.

Love to all.
