No Bond for Cesar Narvarrette, Charged in the Crash that Killed Sara Holmes
I attended the Bond Reduction Hearing yesterday. It was gut wrenching. The testimony and photos that were shown kept me up all night.
TO BE CLEAR, THERE IS NO BOND and Navarrete will remain in jail until his trial.
From the Bradenton Police Department—
* CASE UPDATE * Today, a Manatee County Judge denied a reduction in bond for Cesar Navarrete, 25, the driver charged in the Nov. 2 crash that killed Sara Holmes, 37. Navarrete remains at the Manatee County jail with a $1.25 million bond. According to BPD Traffic Homicide Investigators, Navarrete was driving at an extremely high rate of speed on Cortez Rd when he ran a red light at 43rd St. W and slammed into the car Holmes was riding in. The subsequent DUI investigation revealed Navarrete had a BAC of .289.
Navarrete had an outstanding warrant at the time of the crash. He was arrested on the warrant while at the hospital (early morning of Sunday, Nov. 3). BPD then obtained arrest warrants for Navarrete and charged him on Monday, Nov. 4 with DUI Manslaughter and Driving While License Suspended Causing Death or Serious Bodily Injury. Navarrete remained hospitalized for several days and, once discharged, was transferred to the medical facility at the jail. Navarrete will be arraigned on Dec. 27. Our investigation is ongoing.
