Nik Wallenda’s Daredevil Rally is Big Fun at Nathan Benderson Park
World-renowned wire walker Nik Wallenda is playing for the hometown crowd at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota! A socially distanced drive-in show, Wallenda brings his friends along to entertain with BMX bikes, motocross, and various circus stunts. Yes, I said it – and where better to have a show like this than Sarasota, the home of Ringling and so much circus history. Nathan Benderson is a perfect spot for the stunt show. Sunset brought a beautiful array of colors to the sky at the evening show.
Nathan Benderson – Drive-in Show Concept
The drive-in concept is great for this show and the current weather! Bring your chairs and snacks to relax in or out of your car. Don’t worry if you didn’t have time to grab snacks, there is a concession area for drinks and popcorn. There are Wallenda t-shirts and Nik’s latest book “Facing Fear” for purchase and he will autograph it and take a photo but you don’t have to buy anything to meet Nik after the show. He and the entire cast are very accessible to everyone.
Great daredevil stuff from duo Johnny Rockett and Galaxy Girl, tricksters with motorcycles and swings. The Human Cannonball Dave “The Bullet” Smith who I had seen America’s Got Talent is in the show. The cannon brought back memories of the Ringling Bros. circus when I was a kid. The BMX crew bust it with their bike skills. This show is certainly for the kids and families, but there was a mix of seniors, women and fans of Wallenda all along for the ride.
Nik walks a 60’ ft high wire and at this show his shoes didn’t make it to the site so he walked it in his socks! Not the norm, but he said he has practiced in his socks. He took questions from the audience as he took his walk down the wire. He said he is in secret negotiations for his next walk. We will have to wait and see what is coming.
I won’t give away the exciting finale of this show because you should go down to Nathan Benderson Park and see it for yourself! We are lucky to have Nik and family as Sarasota residents that give back to their community in such a great way. There are several more shows this weekend & next, you can get all the info and purchase tickets on the WEBSITE or Facebook.
