Marie Sikorski is 90 Years Old and Could Lose Her House to The City of Sarasota
Marie Louise Sikorski has lived in her house on Webber Street for most of her life. The house has needed repairs and upgrades… it’s 70 years old! The City of Sarasota has been fining Marie $500.00 a day for the last 2 years for code violations. Now, it adds up to about $150,000.
Here is the “good guy” part of the story. Her neighbor, “Miles” has been making all of the repairs around the house with the help of some friends for the last 2 ½ months….. all FREE! The house is now looking great and many of violations have been taken care of. Miles says “The “City” is taking a stance that the repairs have not been done by a licensed contractor. They say that there are still other repairs that need to be made.”
There have been some offers by other great good Samaritan’s in our area to help. Many are licensed contractors.
In the meantime, the stalemate goes on. In an email to me yesterday, Miles said “the City Manager is going to take another look at this case on Tuesday, 5/31- Let’s see.
Here are 2 videos about this tragic situation, 1 posted by Miles and the other from Channel7 ABC here in Sarasota.
