Listen Local – Support Community Radio! WSLR Needs Your Help

Eat Local! Buy Local! Love Local!  More and more consumers are forgoing big box stores to support smaller businesses in their communities.  People want to invest in their communities, supporting the restaurants, shops, salons, and bars that bring color to their neighborhoods and strengthen their local economy. This year WSLR+Fogartyville is encouraging residents to “Listen Local!” by tuning in and supporting community-owned and operated radio.

Listen Local – Fall Membership Drive

This year the theme of WSLR+Fogartyville’s Fall Membership Drive is ‘Listen Local’ and every locally-produced program will be featuring local musicians or interviews with local people, highlighting the places that make our community unique.  As a non-commercial station, WSLR depends on listener-support to fund its operations.  Twice a year, volunteers and staff take to the airwaves to ask directly for community members to step up and support WSLR+Fogartyville.

This year’s Fall Membership Drive starts on Thursday, November 12 and runs through Wednesday, November 18.  WSLR+Fogartyville is hoping to raise $40,000 to help fund their operating costs for the next six months. If you have a favorite show or would just like to support independent media you can pledge online at or call the office at (941) 894-6469.

COVID Impact on WSLR

While Fogartyville had to close in mid-March due to Covid-19, WSLR has remained on the air 24/7, increasing local news coverage and hiring a part-time reporter specifically to cover news relating to the pandemic.  WSLR 96.5 is a unique kind of radio. Each time you tune in to WSLR you hear our community—our people, environment, music, and attitude.

The people on the air at WSLR are volunteers – passionate lovers of music and concerned citizens bringing listeners local news and information – working to connect our community.  As a low-power station, WSLR has a limited broadcast range and focuses on serving the local community, even though people around the world can access the content produced via the website at or on the WSLR mobile app.   WSLR has been broadcasting since 2005 and looks forward to the next 15 years serving the Sarasota community.

WSLR+Fogartyville is a center for creative expression and community engagement that amplifies the voices of our diverse community and promotes peace, sustainability, democracy, and economic and social justice.
