Flying Dog Cafe Reunion- March 24th!

Flying Dog Cafe Reunion- March 24th!

Back in 2003 I opened the Flying Dog Cafe on Tallevast Road in Sarasota. My concept was simple, I just wanted to open a breakfast and lunch spot in a big warehouse. Little did I know that it would turn into a music venue as well. We started an open Jam in 2005 on Thursday nights. We must have been in the right place at the right time.

From the first open jam to the last it was incredible. The turn-out of local and not so local musicians was remarkable. Musicians came from as far away as Englewood to the south and Tampa to the north and all points in between. The Jam was so successful that we added music on Friday & Saturday.

Music is an incredible thing. Everyone loves music. Right? The Thursday night Jam was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between the Flying Dog and the Sarasota / Bradenton community. By default, or in my mind by the hand of GOD, the relationships and the friendships that developed over the next 14 years cannot be counted. Personally, I know of at least two dozen relationships that our still going strong. In fact, a few have turned into marriages. In life, you have to take the good with the bad, meaning I have witnessed a few relationships that have parted. Not to mention having several patrons & musicians move on from this beautiful world to a better place.

Our mission statement puts it all in perspective, I believe we not only embraced those words but lived them.

In life’s hectic journey, we try to find a way to unwind. For most of us this means flying to exotic destinations in search of relaxation.

Many of us do so with those who are closest to us. For some people, this is man’s best friend.

Our goal at the flying dog cafe represents that destination for relaxation and companionship.

Bruce Famiglio and Carolyn DavisMarch 24th, at the Bradenton Women’s Club we are having our first reunion party. In the spirit of the Flying Dog we decided to combine the reunion with a fundraiser for the Bradenton Women’s Club. Last year their building took a big hit from Hurricane Irma and they are in desperate need of funds to finish the repairs. I thought what a great way to help others in need. There will be three bands. The Usual Suspects, The Florida Blues Brothers, and The Verge. We hope to have raffles and door prizes as well.

Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20 at the door.

There is a cash bar (extremely reasonable) and we will be selling our Famous Chili & Reuben’s too. Every penny collected goes directly to help the Bradenton Women’s Club.

Here is the bottom line. Please help me help them. I can assure you that the entertainment and camaraderie is going to be well worth the $15 investment.

I look forward to seeing all my friends on March 24th. Thank you!
