Clancy’s Irish Sports Pub in Bradenton Celebrates 1st Anniversary with Record Crowd and Live Music

| Sande Caplin |

There are big nights… and then there are Clancy’s nights.

Last night at Clancy’s Irish Sports Pub was one for the record books. In my 20 years of walking through those familiar doors, laughing with friends, listening to live music, and celebrating life’s milestones, I can honestly say that — outside of St. Paddy’s Day — it was the most attended event I’ve ever witnessed at Clancy’s.

The energy started building early. Cars lined the parking lot, and people were already gathering outside before the music even began. There was a buzz in the air — that unmistakable hum of anticipation when you know something special is about to happen.

Passing the Torch

This wasn’t just another Saturday night.

It was the first anniversary of passing the torch from longtime owners Rayma and Mel Stowe to Dana and Eric Rothgery. A year ago, the keys — and the responsibility of carrying on a beloved Bradenton institution — were handed over. And last night felt like the community’s way of saying: You’ve done it. You’ve honored the legacy. And Clancy’s is thriving.

Inside, it was shoulder-to-shoulder. Friends who hadn’t seen each other in months reconnected. Regulars hugged behind the bar. New faces blended seamlessly with old ones. The walls of Clancy’s have always held stories, but last night they seemed to pulse with them.

Then came the music.

Westbound & Down took the stage and immediately turned the packed pub into a full-blown celebration. Their sound filled every inch of the room — upbeat, tight, and perfectly suited for a night like this. People weren’t just tapping their feet. They were dancing. Singing. Raising glasses in rhythm. The band fed off the crowd, and the crowd fed off the band. It was electric.

Even the youngest fans got in on the celebration.

I’ve seen Westbound & Down play before, but something about this crowd elevated everything. Maybe it was the meaning behind the night. Maybe it was the history in the room. Whatever it was, the connection between the stage and the sea of smiling faces felt powerful.

Friends, Family, and Mookie

And yes — “the girls” were there. They had an absolute blast. From the moment we walked in, the laughter started and never stopped. There’s something magical about sharing a night like that with people you care about. The music, the crowd, the memories — it all blends into one of those evenings you know you’ll talk about for years.

Of course, Mookie was in attendance as well — as he always is for the big moments. He soaked up the attention like the seasoned Clancy’s veteran he is. Between pets, smiles, and more than a few familiar faces stopping to say hello, he was in his element. If dogs could give reviews, I’m pretty sure his would be five stars.

A Year of Carrying the Torch

What struck me most, though, was how seamlessly Dana and Eric have stepped into ownership over the past year. Clancy’s still feels like Clancy’s. The warmth is there. The staff camaraderie is there. The loyal regulars are still at their usual spots. But there’s also fresh energy — thoughtful touches, new ideas, and a clear passion for honoring what Rayma and Mel built while guiding it forward.

That’s not easy to do.

Last night wasn’t just about marking a date on the calendar. It was about celebrating continuity. Community. Tradition. It was about acknowledging that Clancy’s isn’t just a pub — it’s a gathering place. A second home. A stage for countless birthdays, fundraisers, game nights, and live music memories.

As the night wound down — long after the first set ended and the final song echoed through the room — no one seemed in a hurry to leave. People lingered. They hugged. They toasted one more time.

A good time was truly had by all.

In two decades of memories at Clancy’s, this one now sits near the very top. Not because it was flashy. Not because it was loud.

But because it felt like family.

And in Bradenton, that’s what Clancy’s has always been about.
