Busy Month for Florida Suncoast Restaurants Closing and Reopening
As we approach the start of Hurricane Season 2025, many businesses in and around Sarasota are still reeling from the aftermaths of hurricanes that have been ravaging the area for several years. Some of these establishments have been celebratory places where birthdays and anniversaries were enjoyed. Many places defined the topography and helped define what “Old Florida” looked like. Small mom-and-pop restaurants and bars that grew up and evolved right along with generations of Floridians. For some, reopening has been tough due to the negative economic impact the storms have had. As we bid farewell to many recent businesses who have closed, we also open our hearts to those who are returning, reopening their doors with trepidation on whether their customer base is still there to provide support. We welcome new business owners who are investing their money and trust and bringing services to the locals who tough it out all year long. We are highlighting some who have gone and some who are back.

Snook Haven Snook Haven Restaurant – Barbecue, Brews and Bands On The Myakka River recently closed their doors for a major renovation due to recent hurricane damages. Sarasota County will build a concession stand further back from the river and make other changes to the property for a reopening in 2026. The month of April saw visitors enjoying the last outdoor concerts and paying homage to the natural setting at Snooks before changes take place.

O’Leary’s has reopened Home – Olearys Tiki Bar as of May 2nd. Though the Tiki Bar is still under reconstruction, the main restaurant and seating are available to enjoy the Sarasota skyline or Sarasota Bay. There’s nothing as “Sarasota” like than having a nice meal and a cold drink then heading out for a walk around Bayfront Park after O’Leary’s.
After 50 years as a Longboat Key staple, Euphemia Haye Euphemia Haye Restaurant & The Haye Loft are closed. A surprise to employees and patrons has left a void for those who enjoyed the uniqueness and quality standards of this beloved establishment. After decades under the same ownership, the restaurant was sold in 2022 and eventually closed in April of 2025.

In Bradenton, Blue Marlin Home – Blue Marlin Seafood is back in business this month. Despite extensive hurricane flood damage, the restaurant has been completely rebuilt from the studs up. Some relics saved from the former building along with several long-time employees returning and a reimagined interior and menu are sure to delight locals longing for their fresh seafood fix on Anna Maria Island.
Those who have enjoyed a great grouper sandwich from Turtle Beach Grill Turtle Beach Grill – Siesta Key Waterfront Restaurant, Turtle Beach Restaurant will be disappointed to learn this Siesta staple is closing by the end of the month. Plans to expand the marina are in place; however, the restaurant is not slated to reopen.
