Nail World, A Divine Appointment

Who Knew a pedicure would turn into a divine appointment!  Have you ever met someone for the first time and they captured your attention with their smile and demeanor?  I went to get a pedicure at Nail World at the Cortez Plaza and this ended up being more like a divine appointment than a nail service.  He told me to call him “P”, so we were kind of hanging out and just talking about every day stuff.  The Interviewer in me was pestering to ask him questions.  Sometimes it feels like my evil twin, and I cannot silence her when she wants out.

Soto’s Optical, Kim & Ron Soto

Ron Soto is a very groovy guy, if you don’t mind my using the word “groovy”.  First of all, before we go any further, Ron and Kim Soto own and operate Soto’s Optical Boutique, at 1383 Main Street in Sarasota.  They sell fashion eyewear, glasses, and accessories.  The first time I visited their store, just to check things out, I was salivating.  There’s top-of-the-line eyewear displayed so fashionably, with pendant lights that look like something cool from the future.

The Artist Previously Known As Jimi Gee

If you ask Jami why he’s not Jimi anymore, it’s because in his head he’s ALWAYS been Jami.  It’s just one letter different, but inside his heart and soul, Jami is who he always wanted to be.  Jami thinks an awful lot.  He’s got more friends than he can count, but he’s also got people who don’t understand him at all, people that fear what they think he stands for, and that’s just plain wrong.  In my last article about Jami I explained, as he explained it to me, the meaning of G.I.D., or Gender Identity Disorder.

Banana for Breakfast, Anyone??

This is interesting. After reading this, you’ll never look at a banana in the same way again.  Bananas contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.  Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes.  But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

For Pete’s Sake, Pete Arevalo

Sunday, August 4, 2013 was a very special day in Sarasota, Florida.  Hundreds of wonderful people from all walks of life came out to JR’s Old Packinghouse Café to support Pete Arevalo, FOR PETE’S SAKE.   Pete is a musician and an owner of Spirit Ranch Recording Studio.  He is well known for being a part of Acoustic Pete Blues Trio and Swamp Grass.  Pete is a giver….always supporting folks and hosting benefit shows for people in need.  Pete is battling back from oral cancer and this wonderful benefit helped to pay some of the medical bills he has incurred and go towards lost income for Pete.  A lot of money was raised for Pete.

Anna Maria Island: The Beach, the Beauty, the BLTs

Don’t go looking for the Denny’s Seniors Specials on Anna Maria Island.  Anna Maria is located 10 miles north of Sarasota on Florida’s Gulf Coast.  Years ago, when the rest of Florida got the message about endless lines of condos, high rises, and chain restaurants, AMI was entirely too busy picking sand out between her toes to notice. Now, she lives in some kind of magical time warp, consisting of funky cottages and restaurants, small scale motels, and a popular vintage mobile home park alleged to have been built to be the winter housing for the Ringling Brothers circus employees.

Love and War. And Love

This story was originally written on June 28, 2011 and posted on “Life in the Boomer Lane” by Renee Fisher.  It is truly a heartwarming story and there is great information about Sarasota / Bradenton, Florida  and Bruce Famiglio’s Flying Dog Cafe!   Here is the reprint of the story………

There’s a iconic photo taken on August 14, 1945 by the legendary photographer Alfred Eisenstadt.  It is the day World War II ended, and the photo is called “The Kiss.”
