Stephanie Price…She’s Been Singing Since Her High Chair Days

Stephanie Price…She’s Been Singing Since Her High Chair Days
by Laurie Mirkin

Stephanie Price………She was one of these kids that is just born to sing, and that’s what she did.   Born on the day that “Elvis” died, she said jokingly, “our souls crossed paths and I got some of his musical soul.”  She remembers her solo in her third grade talent show.  She probably remembers every event she ever sang at because at the root of her being she loved to make a joyful noise.  And we’re the lucky ones because we get to see the beautiful face, the six foot girl with heels, and the most amazing voice that emanates from her heart, starts at her toes and works its way out of her mouth.  The first time I heard her sing I was blown away.

Actually, she was singing with sTonefish at the Flying Dog Café.  The band was playing an old Traffic song that I had always loved and hadn’t heard in decades.  I was love struck.  In fact, I don’t think I ever heard Stephanie sing a song I didn’t love.  Steph’s been with sTonefish for 4 years now.

Lauren Mitchell and Michael the “Professor” Hensley in a Whole New Light

Lauren Mitchell and Michael the “Professor” Hensley in a Whole New Light…
by Laurie Mirkin

I was so enthralled and gratified to be sitting about 10 ft. away from Lauren Mitchell and Mike Hensley, (more respectfully known as “Mike the Professor”) who were playing at the Blue Rooster last night.  The atmosphere was perfect…from the sublime “low” lighting to the acoustics, perfect is the word that comes to mind.

We had a beer and some great fried green tomatoes and macaroni and cheese…good comfort food  prepared, as we used to say, “so well that it made you wanna slap yo’ mama”!  So the mix was great food, superlative entertainment, and an ambience that was so laid back and perfect that I felt like I was experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Lani Copp…a Female Drummer Who Can Hold Her Own

Lani Copp…a Female Drummer Who Can Hold Her Own
by Laurie Mirkin

To me it’s such a trip seeing a female drummer so I can’t wait to see Lani play at Ladies Sing the Blues on March 26th at Primo, in Sarasota.  Lani is relatively new to Sarasota.  She moved from Dover, New Hampshire  to Sarasota 5 years ago to be closer to her parents.Music is in her blood.  She first played the drums as a teenager to fill in at the Dover, New Hampshire Legion Hall when her Dad’s drummer was sick.  He took a chance on her and her Dad could not believe how good she was and paid her $5 for the night!  Ever since 1973, Lani has been playing. Now, at the Oneco Legion 319 once a month, Post 24 Legion once a month, DAV 63rd, also Saramana & Wilkinson Eagles, and so many other venues.  Her band is called Lani-C-and Company and she loves their current team, who got together 7 months ago and are in it for the long haul.

Meredith Garofalo- New Opportunities

Meredith Garofalo, New Opportunities
by Laurie Mirkin

I spoke to Meredith yesterday, and I have to say that she can talk!  That makes my job so much easier, so I appreciate that, and Meredith has already done so much in her young life that I could barely keep up trying to write it all down.  Thanks, Meredith.

We talked about her love of music, which started when she was just a little girl.  She loved being in several different choirs as a young girl, and has taken acting lessons and participated in plays and musicals. She says she feels like a lot of her musical influence came from her grandfather, who had an accordion band.  I asked her if she’d be interested in acting, and I was surprised when she said she is seriously considering joining a local theatre company.  I can easily see where she’d be perfect for theatre.Meredith is from Cleveland, Ohio.  She’s got family there and also in New Port Richey. She has a younger sister who is 24, and her parents are both residing in Cleveland. Meredith told me she has worked in Ohio, Indiana, South Dakota and Florida, building her television career.  She has moved too many times and is happy to call Sarasota her home.  Her experience with ABC,Channel 7 in Sarasota, Florida, having come to a close, leaves her with time to really discover her surroundings and do everything she had no time to do before.

Meet Leslie Hinsz…aka Leslie SRQ

I had the pleasure of speaking, up close and personally, with Leslie Hinsz of LeslieSRQ Productions, as well as Parties by LeslieSRQ, a large party/events group of singles who meet at different venues for dancing, drinking, eating, and just having a wonderful time. She is like a firecracker, all energy and movement, always thinking and planning the next great idea or function. Leslie is a native Sarasotan and loves her home town with a passion that expresses itself in the excitement on her websites, down to the creation of unique and inspiring events and videos.

Leslie has always recognized what a ‘gift’ she was given being born and raised in Sarasota!, She related to me her fondest childhood memories and the complete wonder and love of growing up in this paradise we call home. Leslie took advantage of the various cultural events and ballet lessons, singing lessons and participation in local events. Leslie is not shy and retiring…she grabs ideas every hour of every day and puts them out there into cyberspace.

Log onto www.lesliesrq.com and see for yourself. It’s an exciting website filled with amazing graphics, colors, and examples of her videos. Included in her video offerings are business promotional videos, Mother’s Day videos, holiday and occasion videos, and memorials that will
