In 1973, in Watkins Glen NY, there was a rock festival which drew over 600,000 and was once in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest audience at a rock concert. No, it wasn’t Woodstock! It was the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen. There were only three bands that played; The Grateful Dead, The Band and The Allman Brothers. Produced by the late great Bill Graham, there were 150,000 tickets sold at $10.00 each and the other 450,000 showed up for free!

Gregg Allman was born in Nashville and lived in Savannah, Sarasota, L.A. and traveled the world. On Saturday, he went back to Macon to be laid to rest with his brother Duane and friend, Berry Oakley in the city that started it all. Macon, Georgia showed their love and respect saying goodbye to their musical son.

This past week I got the opportunity to catch up with Jason Haram as he wrapped up his evening at the “Strictly Blues on the Bay” Jam at the Swordfish Grill and Tiki that Jason hosts every Thursday night. Jason’s workhorse, a 62 Fender Stratocaster sits silent, it’s sunburst finish in places completely worn away, it proudly bears the scars of his craft.

Now that Bob Dylan has won the Nobel Prize for Literature (2016) – the first musician to win the award –WSLR decided it was time to pay tribute to the enigmatic songwriter. Multiple bands will pay tribute including Ship of Fools, Steve Arvey with Rebecca Byrd and Roy Handcuff (WSLR’s very own Mark Zampella, Kid Red, Paul Louis and Scott Blum).

Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival runs every year from March through Memorial Day Weekend! Part of the festival includes the “Garden Rocks Concert Series”. Different national acts every weekend. Blood Sweat and Tears with Bo Bice were performing on the weekend of our visit. Bo has gone through many changes since his Idol days. Gone is the long hair.
