I did the Wave last night! No, not standing and raising my arms at a sporting event. I did a show along with guitar genius Jami Gee, drummer Eddie James Liashek, and Scott Stevenson on bass at The Wave Grill at Ramada Venice Resort Hotel. Everything about last night was extraordinary. Therefore, I have to share it with all of you. First of all, the hotel itself is a work of art right down to the bathroom and very elegant. When you walk in the front door you immediately feel like you have stepped into a tropical resort.
Cathy Vande Mheer’s dream has become a reality. She’s still in the process of outfitting the store with shelves, decorations and other welcoming signs about how happy they are to be open! Cathy is really excited about finally having a place to hold her cookie and craft classes. At the Cookie Cottage you will totally get involved in her class called “creative cookies for any occasion.” If you missed their ribbon cutting for the grand opening with the Chamber of Commerce, there will be many more up and coming events, parties, fundraisers and childrens birthday parties. Cathy strongly believes in being community-minded and is involved in various charities and fundraisers during the year.
Last year, the website Travel-Ticker.com conducted its annual summer intentions survey, and asked the following: If you were given the chance to do one crazy activity while on vacation that you wouldn’t attempt at home, what would it be?
When I was first approached about contributing some articles to The Sarasota Post about my experiences as a young musician in Sarasota I thought, cool! Then, I quickly realized I would actually have to write which is not my idea of fun unless it’s song lyrics. After all, I do plenty of writing for school so I couldn’t think of any reason I would agree to waste my free time writing. My mind was completely changed after watching Lauren Mitchell perform.
Sarasota, FL – Short film No Real Than You Are begins production this summer after a successful Kickstarter campaign. The script follows a fictionalized history of Sarasota’s founding family and a young descendant’s downward spiral into opiate addiction.

Laurie and I had the pleasure of attending the 3rd Annual “Food and Wine on Pine,” on Anna Maria Island on Saturday. It was the first time we ever attended this great event. Fabulous food, lot’s of street vendors, awesome beverages and great music. It was an all day event. The main reason for going is that I heard that Savannah Brady and the Jimi Gee “All Stars” were going to be playing.
My dear friend Laurie Harris has pancreatic cancer. Laurie and I hooked up when we were in the 6th grade and became boyfriend and girlfriend through the 7th grade. I was about 4 foot tall at the time and she was a foot taller than me……or so it seemed! I always tell her that I still remember dancing a slow dance with her at a 7th grade party resting my head on her chest! She always says “what chest.” Well, I guess it was the height difference and we moved on from boyfriend / girlfriend to forever friends.
Meeting Steve Arvey in Starbucks in the morning is an interesting experience. He’s trying to crank himself awake with some high-test coffee and making jokes with a totally straight face. My favorite one is “Well, that went over like a pork chop at a Bar Mitzvah”. He is an enigma in the Sarasota/Bradenton/Tampa music scene and is probably the only musician working 6 and 7 nights a week. That’s why meeting him at 9 a.m. is a wondrous experience.
Having grown up in Chicago, Steve was exposed to blues and rock music, but didn’t pick up a guitar till he was 13, and it wasn’t a great relationship. He put the guitar down and didn’t pick it back up till he was 16, and then was completely motivated to become a solid player.
Saturday, December 8…..it was the “Party of the Year.” Our pal, Randy Friese sure know how to make it happen. By invitation only, it was a “who’s who” of Sarasota / Bradenton musical talent. And oh……what food. Randy & Mark Kracker provided some of the most mouth watering treats from pulled pork, deep fried turkey, […]
