Decades Rewind – Interview with Lisa Larkin

Lisa Larkin is the lead singer for the rock band Seven Years Past. A local Sarasota/Bradenton band who in 2015 won the Hard Rock Rising band competition at the Tampa Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Recently, Lisa joined the stage show of Decades Rewind. A musical journey of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. They will be at Van Wezel on Friday, November 17th! Be sure and check out this trip into your memories of music! ZZ TOP ROCKED HALLOWEEN NIGHT IN SARASOTA

Back in April, ZZ Top was supposed to play at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center but bassist Dusty Hill suffered an injury while on tour and the show had to be rescheduled.  Dusty is back and the wait was worth it! ZZ Top, a sold out show to the rafters at the Purple Cow and on Halloween night, it was the perfect storm! In costumes from ZZ Top beards to the Mario Bros., the SRQ audience came ready to rock!

This story was originally written on February 23, 2016.  An UPDATE:  Grace Carlson successfully finished the long road to an MBA degree in Sustainable Systems from Pinchot University in Seattle, WA.

Grace Carlson is a 52-year-old sustainable marketing pro ‘living the dream’ with her husband in a condo at The Renaissance with a view of the Van Wezel and Sarasota Bay. The two walk hand-in-hand in all things sustainable.

CHRIS ISAAK’S “FIRST COMES THE NIGHT” TOUR COMES TO SARASOTA

Musician and sometime actor Chris Isaak came to Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Thursday, April 28 on one of his tour stops in support of his new album “First Comes the Night”. Chris had one of the last major hits of the 1980’s with “Wicked Game” having both radio and MTV success in 1989. He performed it at this show with the same haunting style combined a brilliant low lavender lighting. The song has been covered by many artists over the years including recently by rocker Chris Daughtry.

Sophia Loren Receives Big SRQ Welcome and Award

Last night, glamourous international film star, Sophia Loren received the SFF Legend Award from the Sarasota Film Festival and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center.  The host was Bill Harris from Entertainment Tonight.

Sophia Loren Is Coming To Sarasota

Sophia Loren is coming to Sarasota on Thursday, March 31 to receive the 2016 Legend Award at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center.  The event announced by The Sarasota Film Festival is part of the Van Wezel’s Performing Arts Season.  The event is the evening before the Film Festival’s opening day on April 1.  Sophia Lauren will be presented the SFF Legend award and will be followed by a conversation on stage with Ms. Lauren and “Entertainment Tonight” news person, Bill Harris.

Sarasota Film Festival- Big Announcement!

The Sarasota Film Festival had a major announcement today!  Several  films that were a big hit at Sundance plus  a new comedy from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach and a documentary about Mariel Hemingway, who will be making an appearance, will be the main attractions at the 15th annual Sarasota Film Festival taking place in Sarasota from April 5 through 14.

The SFF folks announced today that Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s documentary “Blackfish” will be the opening film  this year with a screening at The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on  April 5.  Baumbach’s “Frances Ha” will screen as the closing night film on April 13 at The Sarasota Opera House. James Ponsoldt’s “The Spectacular Now” and Barbara Kopple’s “Running Crazy” are the festival’s centerpiece films.
