Eating After School In Westbury

Sarasota Needs More Summer

I try to look away when I enter a store and see the “Back to School” signs and piles of markers and pencils blocking my way. For starters, I get so annoyed with retailers trying to move time along faster than it naturally proceeds.

Relax! Go Do It At ‘Salt of the Earth’ in Sarasota, FL

Welcome to August! Leaving July and entering August means one thing for most of us—Back to School. Yes, this has been one quick summer. I remember when August was all yours as a kid, the last month of freedom before Labor Day which was the signal that school was beginning. Now, kids are out of school before Memorial Day and back in weeks ahead of Labor Day, thus seeming to shorten the time spent away from the books. For parents, a return to school means many things. First, and an obvious foremost, kids will be doing their own thing during the day, away from you and your home. Perhaps this makes your heart twang in a sad way as the uncertainty of a new routine awaits. Or, if you’re a seasoned parental unit, maybe you are counting down the days until you have your freedom and sanity back. It’s o.k., we’ve all been there.

Freedom of Speech – Is that a thing anymore?

As a child, I would listen to stories of our history here in the United States from my relatives and others who spoke of it with such conviction. I also was married to a non-citizen for many years from a country that did not have anywhere near the freedoms we had here. The thrill of […]
