Donating Blood Is A Piece Of Cake!

Donating blood is so easy.  I mentioned in a story last week that on my Birthday I was going to save lives by donating blood  I hadn’t donated in many, many years!  When I was informed that my blood donation can help save up to three lives, I knew it was a no brainer. I […]

Karen Klarich- A Gracious Lady!

There was a birthday celebration on Saturday night, April 26 at the Flying Dog Café.  Karen Klarich brought her band, “The Big Bad Wolves” and some special guests to celebrate her birthday.  And what a party it was!  There was a great crowd….a really great crowd at the “Dog” and everyone had a fabulous time.  […]

You Just Have to Meet Mitzi

Everyday People is a column about people you see coming and going, but if you stop to talk to one of them, you might find a treasure trove of distinctively different and wonderfully unique life experiences, all rolled up into one every day person. My every day person this week is Mitzi Mirkin. No, this […]

Aah, Those Were the Good O’ Days!

Sande Caplin and I grew up in Westbury, Long Island, in New York.  I have listened to his great stories of neighborhood adventures, playing stick ball in the street, building forts and then bringing everyone to his house so Gert, his Mom, could feed them.  I remember thinking about how he and his friends didn’t […]

A Veteran’s Day Salute

Over the years, I have seen so many great stories about Veteran’s Day.  Besides being special for all of our Veteran’s, it is my daughter Lindsay’s Birthday.  Some of us are able to go on Facebook and say some really nice things about our family and friends who are Vets.  Here are a few that […]

Michael Allman, Revealed

I have to admit, there was more than just an air of excitement as Sande Caplin and I waited in the low- lighted, atmospheric bar at Aces.  I had grown up listening to the Allman Brothers and was lucky enough to see Duane Allman’s last performance in Richmond, Va., but I knew this had little […]

The Wholesome Table- Your Personal Cook!

So who uses a personal cook, you ask? Many folks just plain hate to cook — the planning, shopping, storing, preparing, and cleaning up. I do all of that for my clients. For busy, active people, those who work or are new parents, my service can prevent some stress. It’s also a way to make sure older folks are eating right.  Hiring a personal cook is a wonderful way to eat better, save money on unnecessary grocery purchases or restaurant meals, and gain valuable time to do the things you enjoy………Read on!

The Cookie Cottage Is Now Open In Sarasota!

Cathy Vande Mheer’s dream has become a reality.  She’s still in the process of outfitting the store with shelves, decorations and other welcoming signs about how happy they are to be open!  Cathy is really excited about finally having a place to hold her cookie and craft classes. At the Cookie Cottage you will totally get involved in her class called “creative cookies for any occasion.”  If you missed their ribbon cutting for the grand opening with the Chamber of Commerce,  there will be many more up and coming events, parties, fundraisers and childrens birthday parties.  Cathy strongly believes in being community-minded and is involved in various charities and fundraisers during the year.

On the Road to SRQ – No. 2

How did YOU get here?

In a city where VERY few people are ‘native Sarasotans’, I have always found it fascinating to know HOW and WHY people found their way to SRQ!  This is the 2nd of a series of articles featuring some of your Favorite People telling their OWN Stories!

Boatyard Waterfront Bar & Grill

I had a really great conversation with “Scioban” from the Boatyard Waterfront Bar and Grill.  A very busy lady, she’s in a state of perpetual motion almost every day, being the General Manager and the main overseer of the Boatyard.  She’s been working since she was 15, putting herself through school but not really having a vision of working in the restaurant business.  That really supports my theory that what you went to college for might be the total opposite of what you REALLY want to do and where your passions lie.

Ca’ d’ Zan Welcomes Lauren Mitchell

Last night was a very special evening at Ca ‘d’ Zan at the Ringling complex.  The Lauren Mitchell Band performed to a huge and I mean HUGE crowd.  The weather was absolutely perfect, the water views were extraordinary and the entertainment was magical.  If you are a “blues” fan, this was the event to be at last night!  My pal Laurie and I had such a great time.  What a great way to spend a Thursday eveining in the beautiful Sarasota sunshine and fresh air!
