Don’t go looking for the Denny’s Seniors Specials on Anna Maria Island. Anna Maria is located 10 miles north of Sarasota on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Years ago, when the rest of Florida got the message about endless lines of condos, high rises, and chain restaurants, AMI was entirely too busy picking sand out between her toes to notice. Now, she lives in some kind of magical time warp, consisting of funky cottages and restaurants, small scale motels, and a popular vintage mobile home park alleged to have been built to be the winter housing for the Ringling Brothers circus employees.

Guitar Center Studios presents 3 bands for their first GCS Rockshow! of 2013.
Sarasota, FL Friday February 8th 2013, Guitar Center Studios will kick off the first Rockshow! event of the year at The Flying Dog Café from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. The free live show will feature the newest GC Studios Rockshow! group Monroealong with the GC Studios All Star Group and special guest Kevin Blakely’s Band. Styles of the musical performances will range from jazz, pop to heavy rock.
Laurie’s life has involved a lot of reinvention. Now, at age 60 plus, she has done it again. New location. New job. New relationship. New healthy lifestyle. She has embraced chaos, change, growth, and grey hair with equal abandon. The only thing that Laurie will never reinvent is her sense of humor. Thank goodness for that.
Perhaps I’m a little overly-concerned with the condition of my brain, but it’s scary to think that you could be entering full dementia and even your best friend might not tell you. Ask me the words to all the songs in the 60’s and 70’s and who played what instrument in what band and I would be the music version of Jeopardy’s Grand Champion, but please don’t ask me what I ate for breakfast because I can’t remember. And I don’t feel like digging in the trash, thanks.

I report to her what’s going on, fill her in on anything controversial, and every single time we speak she says “you already told me that twice.” Then I start getting paranoid that I’m really losing it. And then there are the “talks” I have periodically with my significant other. Or are they lectures? (and should I be taking notes?)

I think we all fantasize about having the chutzpah to jump out of an airplane, go bungee jumping, or driving a race car. Most of us never think about piloting a plane. We’re so sure that the requirements are both too expensive and that we need to be in much better physical shape. According to the Universal Flight Training website, to begin this journey you must first have a “Discovery Flight”, which entails going up with an instructor and getting the feel for what flying a plane is all about.
