Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus- The End of an Era?

This past month, an American Icon became a part of American History, with the final performance of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. As I watched the show live on YouTube, I got a phone call from my daughter in Texas who was also watching. She was on the verge of tears as she told me how sad it was for her that she would not be able to take her children to see a Ringling Brothers Circus.

Jason Haram- Homegrown Blues

This past week I got the opportunity to catch up with Jason Haram as he wrapped up his evening at the “Strictly Blues on the Bay” Jam at the Swordfish Grill and Tiki that Jason hosts every Thursday night. Jason’s workhorse, a 62 Fender Stratocaster sits silent, it’s sunburst finish in places completely worn away, it proudly bears the scars of his craft.

Life in the Boomer Lane (Renee Fisher) has been preparing for this day for her entire life.  She’s forgotten a lot of what has happened to her over the last 70 years, and some of that is a good thing.  A lot of life decisions she has made were good ones. Dreaming of the Circus- The Ringling Legacy Lives on in Sarasota

The circus is coming!  The circus is coming!  Those words have been echoed by children, families, and lovers of the spectacle of the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus for the past 146 years.  For many, the circus was a unique first experience on many levels.  To see the grandeur and artistry from the ringmasters and high-wire acts to the enormity and gentleness of the lions and elephants.  Oh, those elephants, whose sweet and cutely-giant presences tugged at the hearts and minds of many and would ultimately play a crucial role in both the building and demise of the circus.
