WSLR in Sarasota hosts Louisiana Gumbo Dance Party
Kid Red, the new host of the “Louisiana Gumbo Show” on WSLR Community Radio, will share his love for Louisiana music with the public on Sunday, September 11th when he hosts a Louisiana Gumbo Dance Party at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center. The Big Easy comes to life with all things New Orleans, it’s like your own made to order Mardi Gras, complete with the beads. This show is a benefit for WSLR. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 day of show. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.wslr.org.
The event will feature kid red and the Pontchartrain All-Stars and the Gumbo Boogie Band. The Pontchartrain All Stars is kid red’s musical celebration of being from New Orleans: a collection of songs from and about the Big Easy in his own unique style, spreading the gospel of the groove.
Bradenton’s Gumbo Boogie Band, founded in 1996, brings the good-time roots sound, with an emphasis on zydeco and swamp-rock. Hard rockin’ Cajun and Louisiana fun delivered by the tub is what you get from these great gumbo eatin’, crawdad cooking players from Florida’s Gulf Coast.
From the traditional jazz and pop of Louis Armstrong to the funk of the Meters to the rhythm and blues of Dr. John and Professor Longhair these bands bring the energy and celebration of a night on Bourbon St. to WSLR. Wear your dancing shoes! Laissez Le Bon Temps Roulet!!!
