Prince, the songwriter, singer, and consummate showman, died last year on April 20 at the age of 57. A seven-time Grammy winner, Prince had Top 10 hits with the songs “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Kiss” and “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World”.
The album “Purple Rain” sold more than 13 million copies in the United States alone. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Troy Nichols of the NEXXLevel Band reflects, “Prince is, and has always been, my all time favorite artist; he has always been my idol. No one has affected American music the way that Prince has, be it funk, pop, rock, r&b, you name it. His versatility was phenomenal and his ability to deliver life-changing, mind-shattering performances was unprecedented. Prince was the musician’s musician and the performer’s performer. We will forever be blessed by his ability to achieve mastery of instruments, dance and performance. He will live forever through his music and in the hearts of his fans new and old.” Troy will bring his love for Prince to the stage on Sunday, April 23 at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center at 7pm as WSLR hosts a Tribute to Prince. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available at www.wslr.org.
