WSLR Hosts Cigar Box Guitar Festival
Enjoy some great homemade food for Thanksgiving, then after you’ve recovered on Friday – head to Fogartyville for some great homegrown music at WSLR’s Second Annual Cigar Box Festival. Dedicated to this homemade and traditional instrument, the Cigar Box Guitar Festival is a great place to learn about making and playing your own cigar box guitars. The afternoon will feature workshops for Cigar Box aficionados and the evening will feature performances by David Smash, the Steve Arvey Band, and Suitcase Full of Blues featuring Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Jimmie Fadden. Food and merchandise vendors will contribute to the festivities. The Cigar Box Festival takes place on Saturday, November 28 at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center (see schedule below). Tickets for the Cigar Box Guitar Festival are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
Fresh off his win at the Central Florida Blues Challenge hosted by Orange Blossom Blues Society, David Smash will show off his versatility on the Cigar Box. Steve Arvey will be joined by Sugar Bear on bass and Cosmo on drums in what is sure to be an electrifying set. Our headliners for the evening will be Suitcase Full of Blues bringing their brand of rockin’ blues to the stage.
