The Venturas, A Sarasota Love Affair

| Sande Caplin |

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of heading out to Marina Jacks and listened to one of our great home bands, The Venturas.  They put on quite a show.   It’s hard to believe that the Venturas have been playing together since 2000.  What made the night even more special was that a dear out of town guest from Arlington, VA came with me and got to see them perform.

Ally Couch, Vocals was raised in Tupelo, Mississippi.  She has performed in many areas throughout the country.  Ally is a high energy singer. Greg Poulos, guitar and vocals puts his heart and soul into every song.  He has been playing professionally for over 42 years and has played with some of the top entertainers in this country.  John Paul Coley, “JP,” bass guitar and vocals has been playing since the age of 12 and has played on many live stages.  Drummer Tracy Alexander was born in New York City and is the son of world renowned Jazz Drummer, “Mousey Alexander.”   Eddie Tobin plays the keyboards and does vocals.  From Ft. Pierce, FL, Eddie has performed in many prestigious venues throughout the world.

The Venturas at Marina Jacks, Sarasota FloridaOn this night, Ari McManus was filling in for Ally couch.  The crowd loves the Venturas.  There was lots of dancing and singing along with the band.  I was amazed at how tight this band is.  Some of the songs included in their performance…..Goody Goody, Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby, At Last, and Kansas City.  The band plays most Wednesday nights at Marina Jacks.   They also play at many other venues in our area. Their complete entertainment schedule can be seen on their website at www.theventuras.com.

It you haven’t seen the Venturas, you’re missing a real treat.  A local Sarasota band that that will keep you rockin’…  It’s a Sarasota “Love Affair!”
