Stumble Creek & The Wandering Hours at Fogartyville in Sarasota
With the band Stumble Creek, a collection of some of Southwest Florida’s most prolific musicians have come together to create a fun, laid back acoustic/Americana sound. Playing a mixture of memorable originals and deep cover tunes, their harmonies and tasteful instrumentation will surely leave you smiling. The Wandering Hours’ neo-traditional mountain folk music combines contemporary songwriting with an old timey feel. Banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and upright bass underscore the band’s thoughtful lyrics and storytelling. Stumble Creek and The Wandering Hours will perform at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center on Saturday, January 29 at 8pm. Tickets are $15 for members and $18 for nonmembers. Advance tickets are available at the website or by calling 941-894-6469.
The Wandering Hours are a rare group that is not only fun and engaging with the audience, but absolute tops on their instruments, drawing from folk traditions and metamodern thinking alike with topics ranging from the perpetuity of time to some good ole drinking songs. A staple in live music circles and the festival circuit, they were named Creative Loafing Tampa’s Best of the Bay in 2019 and 2020. Released in 2021, From the Mountains to the Sea is the debut full-length from the Hours which seamlessly blends string band vibes into a modern, harmony-driven sound that would also feel just at home played on those old 78s your grandpappy kept in his closet.
Like every good creek should, Stumble Creek offers a range of sounds and sensations that provide a feast for the ears as well as the heart – a one-of-a-kind experience at every bend and turn. From sweet to sassy, philosophical to irreverent – in an eclectic mix of Americana with strong folk roots, hot bluegrass flashes and rock-inspired riffs. The band consists of Austin Kennedy (Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin), Sara Stovall (Vocals, Fiddle), Heather Downie (Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin), and Tom Hicks (Vocals, Upright Bass).
