Speakeasy / Prohibition night at the Fogartyville
Gypsy Jazz and Circus Swing will take center stage as Dean Johanesen and the 24 Hour Men host a themed Speakeasy / Prohibition show at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center on Sunday, April 2 at 7pm.
Johanesen will be joined by former Human Condition member Mark Pezzo on upright bass and Max Kelly on percussion. The 24 Hour Men made their debut with Johanesen at the St. Pete Folk Festival in November 2016 and have been doing select performances since that time with more recent showcases at Localtopia & the Tweed Ride in early February of 2017. Opening the show will be The Resonant Rogues from Asheville, NC. With influences ranging from gypsy swing to early New Orleans jazz, and from Appalachian old-time to eastern European folk music, the Resonant Rogues take their favorite flavors and blend them into a delicious, danceable dish. Artist Rolf Hellem will be painting live during the performance.
Attendees are encouraged to get into the theme of the evening and dress in 20’s/30’s attire. Those that do will be rewarded with a free raffle ticket for the painting that will be created that evening by Rolf Hellem. Doors for this event will open at 6pm with an 7pm scheduled start time. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available at www.wslr.org. All ages are welcome; youth under the age of 12 are free and students are half-price.
