SARASOTA WOMEN RULED AT HARD ROCK RISING
Rock music fans represented in big numbers to support their favorite bands at Tampa’s Hard Rock Rising Battle of the Bands on Saturday night! There were seven bands competing for $1,000 and a chance to advance to play in Barcelona, Spain for the grand prize win. For Suncoast fans, it was all about Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio and Seven Years Past.
Twinkle, a Sarasota native, is well known for her incredible set of pipes. A gifted singer/songwriter since the age of 15, she has worked with many national musicians including a stint opening for Aerosmith and touring with Allman Brother’s guitar great Dickey Betts. Her band including her brother, Tony LeClerc on bass, Troy Parrish on drums and guitar wiz Lenny Brooks are a force to be reckoned with.
Seven Years Past fronted by Lisa Larkin was formed in 2008 with Mark Medeiros (Guitar/Vocals), Stephan Rosser (Bass/Keys), Brett Jones (Guitars/Vocals) and Allen Pryor (Drums/percussion/vocals) and they have won numerous Battles of the Bands. A guitar driven hard rock band, they deliver with power. Their latest CD “Switches” was produced by Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac.
There were five other bands in this competition and all gave their all no doubt, but for the SRQ/MANA crowd, these two bands were the pride of the Suncoast. We had great music represented by our area in not one, but two bands! Both lead singers have very different styles but are captivating in their performances.
Congratulations goes to Seven Years Past as the winner of Hard Rock Rising! They move on to the next level of the competition. Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio, always a class act, were happy for Seven and Twinkle said “I love that a chick won.”
The real winners are the people of the Sarasota/Manatee area who are so fortunate to have such a great array of world class musical talent right in our area, not just this Saturday night, but every night at clubs and restaurants all around the Suncoast! Support Local Music, they can’t do it without YOU!
Note: Thank you Vicky Sullivan for this great article. I had the honor and pleasure of attending last night’s special event. Congratulations to all of the bands. They were all fantastic. I was so proud of my dear friend Twinkle Yochim and Rock Soul Radio. I felt it was one of their best performances ever! Sande Caplin
