| Suncoast Post Staff |

The Sarasota Music Conservatory (SMC), local nonprofit organization, is excited to announce its upcoming Piano Marathon, a special fundraising event on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11am to 5pm at the Conservatory Recital Hall, 323 Central Avenue., Sarasota, FL 34236. This community event is open to the public free of charge, and guests are welcome to drop in for any portion of the six-hour musical extravaganza or stay for the entire day! A post-marathon celebration will takes place at 5pm for those who can attend.

The Piano Marathon will showcase Sarasota Music Conservatory’s newly acquired Kawai grand piano, with performances by Conservatory students, faculty, and friends. The six one-hour sessions will feature a mix of solo and collaborative performances, including a special performance and masterclass provided by Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, and featuring guest artists Bobby Nunes (oboe), Stephanie Block (viola), and Clare Longendyke (piano).

In addition to the day’s musical offerings, we are thrilled to announce a generous matching gift of $2,500 that kickstarts our fundraising efforts. Our goal for the event is to raise $6,500 to cover the remaining cost of our new Kawai grand piano. Patrons are invited to support the cause by underwriting an hour of the program with a $500 donation, or by sponsoring a student performer with a donation of any amount.

“We are so proud that The Sarasota Music Conservatory now has four fine grand pianos,” says Léna Cambis, executive director of The Sarasota Music Conservatory. “Each piano enhances the educational opportunities available to our students. The Piano Marathon celebrates this achievement while raising the funds needed to support the Conservatory’s continued growth and excellence in music education in downtown Sarasota,” she says.
