Sarasota Folk Club to Host Monthly Concerts at Fogartyville in Sarasota, FL
The Sarasota Folk Club is moving their monthly concert series to the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center starting this month. The series had previously been held at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron on the last Monday of the month.
July’s featured performers will be folk duo Deserie and Jim. The evening will start at 7pm with an open mic. Deserie and Jim will perform at 8:30pm. The Folk Club passes the hat to cover the costs of the concert and the suggested donation is $10. Mindy Simmons will emcee the open mic. Sign up for the open mic begins at 7pm; names are drawn from a hat if more than 6 performers show up for open mic. Usually each act gets 2 songs. On Monday, July 29, Mindy Simmons will open the show at 7:15, and the open mic will run from 7:30 – 8:15.
Together, Deserie & Jim perform a unique blend of their own bluesy, contemporary folk music. The expressive vocals and potent songwriting of this duo combined with their heart-warming harmonies create a comfortable connection with their audience. Deserie’s style has been described by many as “heartfelt” and “intense”. Jim began writing songs in earnest in 1998 after many years in the music industry experience supporting other artists. His lyrics – sometimes veiled, sometimes chillingly frank are drawn from the everyday subjects of life: the temptations of addiction, love and love lost, and the power of connection.
