Only The Beginning

| Sande Caplin |

I knew that last night was going to be very special.  What I didn’t know was how very special it was going to be!  The “World of Beer” and their Oktoberfest was rocking and rolling.  The bar was packed and the parking lot had a great crowd.  Everyone came to drink a beer or 2 and watch the Michael Allman Band perform on the big stage.

Michael and his lovely girlfriend Janie Durbin arrived around 6:30.  Janie gave me a huge hug like only Janie can do!  Michael seemed really nervous!  We exchanged a few comments and he was off to the stage to check to make sure everything was in order.

My favorite band in the 70’s was “Chicago.”  The Michael Allman Band opened the show with “Only The Beginning!”  I could not get the grin off my face.  It is one of my all time favorite songs and was the signature song for the rest of the night.  Michael and the boys entertained the crowd with some old Allman Brothers tunes, original material from Michael’s new CD and much more.  The highlight of the night was when Michael invited “Twinkle” to the stage.  They made the evening even more special.

Next, I stopped by to see my special pal “Savannah Brady” and friends which included Jamie Gee at the Flying Dog (they were great) and then called it a night.

Mark and the crew moved on to Ace’s where the beautiful and very talented Kim Betts Gingrich and the Gamble Creek Band were performing.  Mark said it was an awesome show and the highlight of the evening was when Kim and Michael sang together.  He said “when was the last time a Betts and Allman were together?”
