Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones- Complicated Mess!
Sarasota / Bradenton, Florida- I had the opportunity to chat with Claudia and Doug Deming last Sunday at the Cortez Kitchen in Cortez, Florida. When the band is not out on the road, Doug considers “the Kitchen” the bands home base! Considering that it was a damp and dreary afternoon, there was a nice crowd listening to the music of the well-known band.
What is the “Complicated Mess”? That is the name of the bands newest CD which will be released in retail stores on October 19. Pre-sales are available now at the band website. (see below) Doug and the band played several songs from the new record along with the title track. The music was special and each player in the band played it to perfection! Doug had several copies of the CD available and they were bought up quick!
At the break Laura Adams and I had the chance to chat with Claudia Deming. She had this huge smile on her face and couldn’t wait to show us a picture of her new grandson, Max. Born in Maine, Claudia was there for the birth and was able to spend some time with the new family member. Doug will have the opportunity to meet the new baby next month when the band goes out on tour. Claudia stays in the background regarding band business and is always available to help Doug with the day to day operations, tour planning and more. As the bands #1 fan, she attends as many bands local performances as possible and can always be seen on the dance floor! She owns an estate sale business and it’s difficult for her to go on the road with the band. It’s a guy thing and anyway there is no more room in the van for another person!!
Doug and the band just completed a Midwest tour that was 3 weeks long with only one day off. 20 dates all through KY, MO, IL, IN, NE, IA, MI, WI and OH. They go back on tour next month! It starts in the Midwest and turns to the Northeast and eventually work down the coast. It will be a month-long tour with 27 dates going through MI, IN, IL, IA, OH, PA, NY, NH, MA, ME, NJ, CT, VA, SC and finishing in Daytona beach FL.
Members of the band on the next tour include Doug Deming- guitar & vocals, Andrew Gohman- Vocals, Upright & Fender Bass, David Cotton- Tenor Saxophone and Wes Starr- Drums.
