Decades Rewind – Interview with Lisa Larkin
Lisa Larkin is the lead singer for the rock band Seven Years Past. A local Sarasota/Bradenton band who in 2015 won the Hard Rock Rising band competition at the Tampa Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Recently, Lisa joined the stage show of Decades Rewind. A musical journey of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. They will be at Van Wezel on Friday, November 17th! Be sure and check out this trip into your memories of music! Lisa took a few minutes between shows to give us an interview!
SP: How did this opportunity come for you to join the case of Decades Rewind?
LL: I ran into Al Owen out at the Drift Inn watching a friends band “Concrete Edgar “ and Al came up to me and asked if I’d be interested in filling in for one of their 6 vocalists on the tour for a couple shows. After checking out the show I messaged Al and told him I’d like to find out more about it. So I did and was very impressed with the level of talent involved with this group. I was always been interested in a bit of theatre back in the day but I’ve never had an opportunity fall in my lap like this … it’s a really cool gig
SP: How has road life been treating you? Is it what you expected?
LL: Being in the bus with 14 people has been surprisingly easy with these folks. We have small bunks about the size of a large coffin. Lol But it’s comfy and I’ve been sleeping pretty good. It’s actually easier than I thought it would be. I’m a light sleeper so I was a bit concerned. They hooked me up with clean sheets and nice comfy blanket. Been plenty warm in these cold states
SP: Give us a hint at what you are performing in the show?
LL: The show is a fantastic! Trip back through time playing some of the best songs of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, with a 14-piece band, killer horn section included complete with large video screens. My part in the project is doing mostly the rock songs but I do get to do some Beatles and some backups on some of the other songs.
I sing lead on Bohemian Rhapsody! All six singers are involved with the harmonies. They absolutely KILL it! Everything is LIVE Meaning NO BACKING TRACKS. Just like music used to be.
Kinda cool, don’t want to tell you all my secrets. Lol
SP. Are you excited about playing for the hometown crowd at Van Wezel?
LL: OMG YES!. Always wanted to play there It’s going to be a blast … I hear it’s huge backstage can’t wait to see it and get lost. Lol So yeah. IM STOKED to be on that amazing stage. Seriously it’s hard to find the words to describe how cool it’s going to be!
SP: What’s coming up for Seven Years Past?
LL: Seven Years Past is my baby! There is always something different about writing and performing original music. We have a show on December 1st at the State Theatre in St. Pete for an industry showcase that we are looking forward to. We hope to get back into the studio and get some new music out in the New Year!
Lucky for me the guys support me stepping out of my box….
