Southern Americana Icon Paul Thorn Comes to Fogartyville
Paul Thorn is able to breathe in the air around him, everyday and commonplace, and exhale something original and often side-splitting funny. It’s a kind of genius, and it’s there plain to see, in his music, his art and through his performances, which not only showcase his chops as a singer-songwriter, but as a pitch-perfect improv comic. Paul Thorn will be performing at Fogartyville on Monday, February 20th at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $37 for members, $40 for non-members. Advance tickets are available on the website.

Raised in Tupelo, Mississippi Thorn spent his youth as a professional boxer, achieving an impressive 14-4 record. Throughout the 1980’s, he paid the bills by working at a local furniture store and starting to grow his passion for music and songwriting on the side. When Roger Sovine of BMI overheard Thorn playing in a pizza shop in ‘97, he decided to share Thorn’s name with Nashville record companies. Within 30 days of traveling to Nashville, he was performing as an opening act for Sting.
A professional in the realm of Americana songwriting, Thorn’s lyricism and musical themes often deal with the Southern dichotomy of the sacred and the profane. His 2010 album, Pimps and Preachers, debuted at No. 83 on the Billboard 200 chart and his 2012 release, What the Hell Is Going On, was the 12th Most Played Album of 2012 on the Americana Music Association Year-End Chart. Today, Thorn continues to perform and showcase his chops as a singer-songwriter, as well as a talented on-stage comic. Known for his amicable and entertaining audience interactions, fans return to shows knowing no two Paul Thorn performances will be the same.
