Bill Schustik travels all over America gathering songs and sowing legends. The tools of his trade include his magnificent baritone voice, a keen sense of drama, a colorful array of folk instruments, and a deep abiding love for traditional American lore.
As an American troubadour, Bill’s performances have carried him from the heeling deck of a salt sea sailing square-rigger, through a record setting ’round the world tour in 46 hours, to a command performance at the White House.
For President’s Day Bill will perform songs inspired by the promise of America. He’ll give you glimpses into the souls of Lincoln and Washington as he plays some of their favorite songs. You’ll enjoy songs of patriotism and protest along with the history you seldom hear.
James Hawkins shares songs about Florida history and the Venice/Sarasota area. Somewhere behind the roadside markers that dot our local historical sights and hidden deep inside the paragraphs of dusty books are the stories of the real Florida. They tell us of “Bloody Ed” Watson, Bone Mizell, Bertha Palmer, Chief Billy Bowlegs and even a few tales about Henry Flagler.
It is these tales that have spurred James Hawkins to sit down with pencil, paper and guitar in hand and share this history. With these songs he will help us turn back time at this special President’s Day show.
Schustik and Hawkins will perform at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center on Sunday, February 18 at 7pm.Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available at www.wslr.org.
