Wow! Sarasota’s Bay Runner Trolley Just Carried its 250,000 Passenger
The Bay Runner Trolley, operated by the City of Sarasota in sunny Florida, has marked a significant achievement by welcoming its 250,000th passenger since its inauguration in March 2022.
“Transporting a quarter of a million passengers within a mere 18 months is truly remarkable,” remarked Broxton Harvey, the General Manager of Parking Services. “Sarasota’s residents and tourists alike have shown a strong desire for convenient and affordable transportation options, especially for the crucial first or last leg of their journeys. With the Bay Runner, riders are leaving their cars behind, embarking on a safe and enjoyable journey, all while contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion.”
The celebratory event unfolded at the John Ringling Boulevard/St. Armands Circle trolley stop, where Fran Seminerio, a resident of Lido Key, was honored as the 250,000th passenger. She was presented with a City of Sarasota backpack, brimming with essential items for a Bay Runner passenger on the move. Among the goodies were reusable water bottles and a handy umbrella, ensuring passengers are prepared for their scenic coastal voyage.
The Bay Runner Trolley operates as a complimentary shuttle service, navigating a fixed route that encompasses the vibrant Main Street in downtown Sarasota, journeys over the iconic John Ringling Causeway Bridge, meanders around the bustling St. Armands Circle, and delivers passengers to the pristine shores of Lido Beach and the scenic Ted Sperling Park. This trolley service has become an integral part of the city’s efforts to provide accessible and eco-friendly transportation options, catering to the diverse needs of both residents and tourists.
