It’s been more than 10 years since the Tampa Bay Rays have been talking about a new ball park. Sites have been suggested from Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater and more! On Tuesday, a new plan was unveiled by Rays ownership to build a stadium in the heart of Ybor City near downtown Tampa.
The cost of the stadium is estimated to be 809 million and with upgrades to the site and infrastructure the total would be approximately 892 million. There have been no announcements as to the financing of the project and it is far from certain that the stadium will be built.
The stadium would seat 28,200 and with standing room would hold approximately 30, 840. The roof will be fixed and translucent. Rays owner, Stuart Sternberg described the new ballpark as fan friendly and “the most intimate ballpark in MLB.”
This is certainly an exciting development for Tampa Bay Rays fans. Now, let’s see if the financing can be put together to make the stadium a reality!
