Tide Tables in Cortez Earns National Spotlight as One of USA TODAY’s Best Restaurants in America

| Suncoast Post Staff |

One of the Suncoast’s most beloved waterfront restaurants has officially earned national bragging rights.

Tide Tables Restaurant and Marina, a laid-back seafood favorite in historic Cortez, has been named to the 2026 USA TODAY Restaurants of the Year list — placing it among just 39 standout dining destinations across the country and only two in Florida.

For locals in Bradenton, Sarasota, Anna Maria Island and beyond, the recognition comes as no surprise.

A True Old Florida Waterfront Gem

Located at 12507 Cortez Road W., Bradenton, Tide Tables sits on the western edge of the historic Cortez commercial fishing village — one of the last remaining working fishing villages in Florida. Overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway and just minutes from Anna Maria Island, the restaurant delivers what visitors dream about when they picture “Old Florida.”

Most seating is outdoors, where guests dine dockside beneath palms and open skies. Boats ease past. Pelicans dive. The breeze carries the scent of salt air and seafood fresh off the boat. There’s also indoor seating and a relaxed tiki-style beer and wine bar that enhances the coastal vibe.

It’s casual. It’s authentic. And it’s unforgettable.

Founded by Cortez Seafood Veterans

Tide Tables opened in 2014 and will celebrate its 12th anniversary on February 24. The restaurant was founded by:

Bell is also co-owner of the Bradenton Boiler Room, which opened in 2025.

Bobby Woodson grew up near Cortez and previously spent two decades as general manager of the iconic Seafood Shack. His deep roots in the local fishing industry are evident in every plate that leaves the kitchen.

From day one, the mission has been simple:
Serve exceptionally fresh seafood in a setting that celebrates Cortez’s fishing heritage.

They’ve never wavered.

What Makes Tide Tables So Special?

Dock-to-Dish Freshness

Seafood at Tide Tables is often cut dockside. The proximity to working fishing boats means the catch is about as fresh as it gets.

Grouper is the undisputed star of the menu. If you order it, you’re doing it right.

The grouper bites are legendary — tender chunks of recently caught fish, lightly breaded and perfectly seasoned. They’re served with house-made tartar, remoulade, or cocktail sauce.

If you see Thai chili grouper bites on the daily specials board, don’t hesitate. The sweet-heat glaze elevates the delicate fish and delivers a memorable flavor punch.

Other favorites include:

  • Fresh scallops
  • Gulf shrimp baskets
  • Blackened fish platters
  • Smoked fish spread
  • Crab cakes
  • Seasonal daily catches

It’s straightforward, expertly prepared seafood that lets the ingredients shine.

National Recognition for a Local Treasure

The USA TODAY Restaurants of the Year list honors dining destinations that stand out for quality, authenticity, and overall experience — from humble roadside gems to nationally acclaimed chef-driven spots.

Tide Tables fits perfectly into the “hidden gem” category. It doesn’t chase trends. It doesn’t try to be flashy. It simply delivers consistency, freshness, and atmosphere — the kind that keeps both tourists and locals coming back year after year.

For Sarasota and Bradenton residents, this national recognition also shines a spotlight on Cortez itself — a historic waterfront community that continues to preserve its working fishing village identity in the face of rapid coastal development.

Why Visitors Keep Coming Back

Many first-time guests become instant fans. The relaxed setting, no-frills ordering style, and unbeatable views make it feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special.

A decade after opening, Tide Tables hasn’t lost its charm — if anything, it has refined it.

Whether you arrive by car or boat, grab a shaded picnic table, order fresh Gulf seafood, and watch the tide roll by, you’ll understand why it earned a spot among America’s best.
