My College Resource Launches Virtual Programming on Facebook Live
With the rise of the Coronavirus Pandemic and the ensuing uncertainty troubling high school students and families, My College Resource added creative programs to answer questions. In March they offered free webinars providing updates and timelines, then relaunched their website with a COVID resources page and a virtual college event calendar. All of this led to the team’s passion project being born: regular programming on Facebook Live.
Longtime Vision
The College Chats and the College Updates are the realization of a longtime calling for President of My College Resource, Debra Landesberg. “Throughout the lifetime of My College Resource, I’ve always wanted to have a column in a newspaper: The College Lady”, said Landesberg. “Then I hired Lisa (Godwin) and we figured out that we could reach the community online and provide even more up-to-date information through these programs.”
Topics covered so far include: dates and deadlines for the Florida state university system, the governing body for all of the public colleges and universities in our state, NCAA rulings for the Class of 2021, how to best take advantage of virtual opportunities colleges are offering and the landscape of standardized testing/the test optional movement. “We consume so much information from colleges each week,” said Landesberg. “I really feel that it is our obligation to share what we learn, not just with our families but with the overall community.”
College Chats & College Updates

The College Updates, a more informal program than The College Chats, airs each Friday at 1 pm. The team describes it as a weekly round-up of the hottest topics in college admissions for the week. “Our goal is for the program to be five- to ten-minutes but we haven’t been able to meet that goal consistently,” laughed Debra. “There’s just too much to talk about!”
The College Chats is a monthly program which can be found on Facebook the first Wednesday of every month at 8:30 am. In preparation for the FAFSA application, which opened on October 1st, the team put together a financial aid program. The first episode, which aired on September 30th, is now available to watch on their website – MyCollegeResource.net. The financial aid theme will continue the following week, October 7th. Future programming will include access and equity in higher education as well as topics and suggestions for students and families to consider at different times throughout the year. The team encourages students and families to reach out to ask questions they will cover live on the air by emailing, info@mycollegeresource.net.
