Heading Back to Sarasota / Bradenton via Williamsport, PA- The Moon & Raven Public House
Sometimes you just never know what to expect. While heading back to the Florida Suncoast we unexpectedly made a stop in Williamsport, PA, the home of the Little League World Series!
We checked into the Best Western Genetti Hotel, a property that was built in 1922 and totally renovated. What a score! The hotel was fabulous with wonderful photos in the lobby of life in Williamsport over the years, a great bar and an awesome staff. Stay there if you are in the area.
Dinner, we weren’t sure where to go. By chance there was a bar/restaurant across the street with no name on the building! We peeked in and saw lots of folks eating dinner and at the bar. Well, why not? and we went in! What a find! The restaurant is the Moon and Raven Public House!
All the table were filled so we sat at the bar. Another find! We were greeted by Katherine, Cate and Craig. All 3 are awesome. They had my favorite Bourbon, and Laura had something really special, a “sazerac”! After enjoying the cocktails, it was time to order.
We decided to go “different” than the usual, usual! For an appetizer, we shared fresh Calamari sourced from Narragansett, RI. Sautéed ~ Flash sautéed with fried capers, diced tomatoes, red onion, parsley and fresh spinach. Finished with brown butter and a squeeze of fresh lemon. It was the best I’ve ever had.
For the main course Laura had the CHICKEN PIE- Tender morsels of chicken with onions, carrots, peas and potatoes in a savory gravy, topped with a baked pastry. It took 25 minutes of bake time! She loved it. I had something special and different: FRESH MOZZARELLA GARDEN SANDWICH- Roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella cheese, sprouts, baby spinach and red onions served on a flame-toasted multi-grain bread and drizzled with parsley cilantro pesto sauce. It was out of this world!
We shared lots of stories with the 3 bartenders. Katherine asked if I wanted a 2nd drink. I said “no”! She said, “Hey, you’re staying right across the street, I can give you a piggy back ride there!” Well, I could not say no.
Two folks walked in, Dawn & Gene who were on their 8th bar crawl stop. They had some great stories to tell. For one, they met on a dating website for farmers! New friends!
So, totally unexpected! We love Williamsport, Pa and our new friends. Sunday morning, we got our chance to visit the Little League field and got some great pictures with the drone…. How special!
