Cool Down At North Port Aquatic Center
All great summer movies have a monumental community pool scene. Whether it be the floating candy bar scene in Caddyshack, where an unfortunate piece of chocolate causes dozens to flee the pool, or that Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, where there are so many swimmers in the pool, they are standing shoulder to shoulder, iconic summer movies are so fun. If you have been to the North Port Aquatic Center lately, the activity there is akin to some of these famous movie scenes. With families enjoying time away from school, and neighbors from adjoining cities coming to see what all the buzz is about, North Port Aquatic Center is the cool place to be on a sizzling summer day.
Something for Everyone
The North Port Aquatic Center really has something for everyone. But, a lot of the amenities particularly cater toward younger children, an age group that sorely needed entertainment options in this area. The Pelican Splashground provides a fenced, safe area for the kids to run around catching timely buckets of water dropped to cool and delight their happy senses all at once. The Relaxahatchee Lazy River lets you meander along slowly enjoying the water and sights of the park with an oversized tube as your vehicle.
For the thrill-seekers, the Barracuda Blast drop slide tests your muster as the floor falls out and you ride the slide to an ultimate splash in the pool below. There are three slides total, and riders must be 48” tall to use. A competition swim pool allows those there for exercise or just a cool escape from the day, plenty of room to spread out. A covered pool deck with ample seating, accompanied by music in the background really makes for a nice morning or afternoon in the outdoors.
Great Event Location
For those looking for a new party venue, North Port Aquatic Center has several options to host your next event. You can even rent the entire park, along with food concessions or stay small scale and bring the kids in for slides and the lazy river. Outside food is not allowed, but the Sand Dollar Snack Shack serves pizza, hot dogs, and hamburgers, along with beverages, snack items and ice cream treats. If you are having a birthday party there, you may bring in a cake and guests may always bring in a water bottle. There is a covered pavilion area with plenty of picnic tables to spread out.
The North Port Aquatic Center hosts a number of swimming lessons, classes and activities including community movie nights. North Port residents do receive a discount for park passes. Make sure to plan a visit before the kids return to school or your guests head back home. Located at 6205 W. Price Blvd. in North Port, the park is just minutes from I-75.
