Blue Ridge Mountain Visitors! The DuPont State Recreational Forest is now open to hikers and swimmers! Here are some of our favorite swimming spots and waterfalls for you to discover on your visit here!

DuPont State Recreational Forest

DuPont State Recreational Forest, is over 10,000-acres of state forest. Located in Henderson and Transylvania counties, a 15-20 minute drive from downtown Hendersonville, NC. The name, DuPont, originates from the fact that the DuPont Company arranged the sale of the original tract to the State.

The DuPont Forest is open now for hiking, mountain biking, swimming and horseback riding. Trails are marked, maps available at Visitor Center/parking area, and we offer Trail Guide Person/Expert, too!

There is nothing quite like being out in the wooded glen as a cure for cabin fever! Standing by glorious waterfalls, breathing in the fresh mountain air and enjoying the glorious outdoors or taking a dip in the many swimming spots in the forest.

If you like swimming in a clear river, you will find one at the DuPont.
If you prefer swimming in a clean clear water hole, head for Hooker Fall’s in the DuPont! Or, if you love lake-swimming, head into Lake Julia, Lake Dense or Fawn Lake.

We are here to provide you with maps, and ideas for the ideal hike for you, or better yet, you can hire our Trail Guide (a Volunteer at the DuPont State Forest). David knows the trails here, not only in the DuPont but from Georgia to Maine. He has hiked the Appalachian Trail, and takes to the woods every weekend! Call Julie about Planning your Day-Hike with David at the Dupont or other trails within an hour from our vacation homes! 828-393-3035.

Review from a visitor at Fawn Lake

Extremely calm and family friendly lake. The water is perfect in mid summer (July). There is a dock to dive and jump in. Swimming, floating, kayaking, paddle boarding etc are all easy to do but you need to bring your own equipment. Very secluded and calm. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

Did you know?!

The Hunger Games were filmed entirely in North Carolina. You can download the locations HERE! Also, the 1992 film, “The Last of the Mohicans” was filmed in the DuPont State Recreational Forest.
