2022 BIG BILL BIG 5K Supporting the Big Bill Foundation In Memory of Bill Robinson
The 2nd annual Big Bill Big 5K presented by All Point Retail and On Running will take place at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota on Saturday, January 29th, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. The Big Bill Big 5K will benefit the Big Bill Foundation which was created in memory of Bradenton native and co-founder of Fit2Run, Bill Robinson after he lost his battle with Leukemia in 2020 at the age of 70.
The Big Bill Foundation’s mission is to provide scholarships to survivors or bereaved siblings of childhood cancer. At this year’s Big Bill Big 5K, the Big Bill Foundation inaugural scholarships will be awarded during a heartfelt ceremony on race day. Awardees will be presented with a scholarship check and will be recognized for their perseverance and bravery. In addition to the scholarships, age group awards, master’s awards, and a few surprise awards that are new for Fit2Time races will be presented! Fit2Time is the race management division of Fit2Run.
The memory of Big Bill Robinson was commemorated in the brand new Fit2Run Bradenton store, whose walls are adorned with memories and accomplishments of Bill and the rest of the Robinson family, who have always resided in Bradenton. This new location not only has the best and latest footwear, gear, and apparel for runners, but also hosts a new Fit2Run concept titled “Spokes”, a beer and seltzer bar for athletes to gather at. Spokes features a Fit2Run and 3 Daughters exclusive beer: Beach Blonde Ale Light. In addition to Spokes, this location has the F2R Bike Shop, a full-service bike shop with bike sales and rentals, bike accessories, service, repair, and bike fittings. Bill Robinson, who partnered with Manatee County in the late 2000s to turn 487 acres of rehabilitated farmland into the hiking trails and mangrove habitats in northwest Bradenton now known as Robinson Preserve, passed in 2020 following a hard-fought battle with leukemia at the age of 70.
The Big Bill Foundation was created to honor the legacy of Bill, who loved running, surfing, going for long walks outdoors, and spending time with his family.
Bill was one of the original board members of the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates, SANCA, and served as chairman from 2014–18. He dedicated countless hours of service to make SANCA and Nathan Benderson Park a success.
Bill’s passion for sport, the community, and his family was evident to anyone who spent time with him.
Bill Robinson was a great leader and mentor, who had a natural gift to inspire and motivate.
