Featuring Al Holland, formerly of the Platters and just in time for Black History Month, WSLR pays tribute to The Men of Soul, including Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Ojays and many other artists of The Motown Era. The Men of Soul are composed to Troy Nichols, Al Holland, Pierre B. Harris and James Varnado. Troy Nichols has been lead singer/co-founder of the Nexxlevel Band for three years and has been performing in our area for the last six years. He is also the host of WSLR 96.5’s Tuesday Morning Soul School Show, every Tuesday Morning from 7am to 9am.
Pierre B. Harris has been working as Music Director/keys/co-founder of Nexxlevel for the last three years and three years before that he was Musical Director of The Crashers, another popular local band, in which Troy was the lead singer. Troy and Pierre are currently in the studio working on their first album. Al Holland has toured all over the world with Wilson Williams’ Platters a group that needs no introduction, and has led several bands that have opened for many national acts. He has also performed in the Ft. Myers area for years successfully as a solo performer. Drummer James Varnado, toured for eight years with Dickie Betts, and now plays with his own Funk Band. Together as Men of Soul they have performed at numerous dinner theaters and events throughout Florida.
The WSLR benefit show takes place on Sunday, February 15 at 6pm at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available at www.wslr.org.
