Upcoming Events at Nathan Benderson Park
Nathan Benderson Park Rec Day!: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 28 and Sept. 4. This is a great opportunity for natural sound and family-friendly imagery on the water. For a small fee, children and their parents and siblings can get out on the water with their choice of our equipment, and switch out at their whim. There are kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards and a 15-foot sailboat with captain (masks required). See more about the family-friendly NBP Rec Days!
Learn To Row Aug. 28-29: No experience necessary! Learn to Row focuses on the fundamentals of rowing, including the basics of the rowing stroke and how to handle equipment. Individuals will be taken step-by-step through nomenclature, safety maneuvers, and independent boat-handling skills with the goal of you being able to join the NBP Masters Rowing Team if you choose. This six-hour course will provide a safe, engaging, and fun environment for you to learn! Course fee is $200. Equipment and instructors are provided; participants must bring shoes/socks, a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and athletic-fit clothing (loose clothing could be caught in the boat’s moving parts). Classes are 9 a.m.-noon both days.
Yoga In The Park Sept. 5 and Oct. 3: Every first Sunday of the month at 9 a.m., join Marina Traub for an all-levels yoga class with plenty of modifications and amplifications to suit your body. It’s $5/person. Register HERE.
Veterans New Paddlers Day Sept. 18: All veterans and their families are invited. NBP’s paddling program is forming a veterans dragon boat crew to compete in area dragon boat festivals against other teams in a veterans division. Wounded, injured or able, there’s a seat in the boat for everyone who’s served. A welcome will be followed with an orientation on land, then a paddling session on the water with coaches, and then a friendly 200-meter race. Picnic lunches are encouraged.
