Upcoming Classes at The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum in Cortez, FL

Join The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum in welcoming back Jillian Ross for a Sourdough Culture class on Saturday, July 14th from 10AM to 12 PM. This class will be a discussion on the methods of making Sourdough bread. Sourdough bread is made through the fermentation of the dough using naturally occurring bacteria and yeast. We will discuss how to care for your sourdough culture and the various ways you can use it. Each student will take home a culture of their own.

Please bring paper and a pen if you would like to take notes and a knife to class.

The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum is welcoming local musician Scott Blum for a drumming class. This class will experience the joy of creating music together in a drumming group activity. Students will learn techniques and explore sound through drums and other percussion instruments with Scott Blum, local musician and composer. All materials are provided in class fees. 

The Feel the Beat Drumming Class at The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum in Cortez, FLThe Feel the Beat Drumming Class will be held on Thursday, July 19th from 10am to 12pm at the Florida Maritime Museum. There is a registration fee of $25. Preregistration is required by visiting FloridaFolkSchool. Space is limited so hurry today to book your spot!

About The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum

The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum seeks to preserve traditional folk skills and heritage crafts that existed in early communities throughout Florida. This is done through class offerings that build appreciation for local culture and create a sense of community amongst residents and visitors. The folk school is at the Florida Maritime Museum, which is located in the 1912 Schoolhouse in the historic Cortez fishing village.
