Tour Tampa’s Timeless Treasures: The Historic Hyde Park Home Tour Returns December 6 with Music, Food & Holiday Magic
Step back in time and celebrate the holidays in one of Tampa’s most cherished historic neighborhoods! Hyde Park Preservation Inc. (HPPI) proudly announces the return of the Old Hyde Park Home Tour on Saturday, December 6 at 10 a.m. Following last year’s record-breaking turnout, advance ticket purchases are highly encouraged, as only a limited number will be available at the door. This rain-or-shine walking tour offers a delightful blend of history, architecture, and holiday cheer, with proceeds supporting HPPI’s preservation and beautification efforts.
Guests will enjoy an intimate look inside several of Hyde Park’s distinctive and lovingly maintained homes — from stately Georgian and classical mansions to cozy Craftsman bungalows and Mediterranean Revival gems. Along the route, visitors can savor snacks, sip refreshments, and enjoy live music from local performers, creating an immersive celebration of old Florida charm.
Hyde Park’s roots date back to the 1880s when railroad magnate Henry Plant built a bridge across the Hillsborough River, opening Tampa’s west bank to development. Early residents like citrus growers James Watrous and William Morrison established what would become one of Florida’s most architecturally rich neighborhoods. The Hyde Park Historic District, officially designated in the 1980s, remains a beloved showcase of the area’s evolution and character.
HPPI President Sarah Tombaugh shared her enthusiasm for this year’s event:
“We’re thrilled to bring back the Home Tour, which celebrates the heart and soul of our community. Each home tells a story — and the funds raised will help us preserve the tree canopy, support neighborhood restoration, and keep Hyde Park beautiful for generations to come.”
This year’s sponsors, Tampa General Hospital and ZooTampa at Lowry Park, exemplify community partnership at its finest — both playing vital roles in caring for people and animals while supporting historic preservation across Tampa.
Expect to be enchanted by festive decorations, picturesque oak-lined streets, and the joyous sounds of the season from Gasparilla Music Festival performers. Local restaurants and sponsors will also provide treats along the way, making the Old Hyde Park Home Tour a must-attend Tampa holiday tradition.
