The Festival begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m., with the music continuing at both the Swordfish Grill and Cortez Kitchen after.
Started as a block party for the locals and the fisherman & crabbers. John Banyas, 4th generation fisherman and the owner of Cortez Bait & Seafood, inc. wanted to give the fisherman a party to kick off stone crab season, which is immediately followed by mullet season.
Now, on our 4th year, we’ve taken it to another level. Plenty of fresh, local seafood, ice cold beer and 12 bands playing on 3 different stages, and of course stone crab, stone crab, and MORE stone crab. Also a Kids Zone and local artisans. Bob Slicker, GM at the Swordfish Grill has tents going up, so that rain or shine, it will be a great time.
Cortez, a National Register of Historic Places community, is the oldest active fishing village in Florida. Come watch the local fisherman unloading their catch daily. In addition to the fish house, there are 2 restaurants on the property (Swordfish Grill & Tiki and Cortez Kitchen), a fresh seafood market and a boat yard (N.E. Taylor Boatworks).
The event this year benefits Fishing for Freedom. They are a growing organization of citizens dedicated to preserving our constitutions, the environment, economy and citizen’s rights through responsible scientific, ecological and biological management.
This will be a very special weekend…..tell your friends! For more information call the Swordfish Grill & Tiki (941) 798-2035. www.swordfishgrillcortez.com.
