Take To The Courts
From the beginning of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in 2004, a group of dedicated volunteers from the surrounding community have come forth from diverse business backgrounds in medicine, accounting, fundraising and education to form the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center Auxiliary for the purpose of expanding the humanitarian goals of the hospital beyond the confines of the physical structure to a real and positive presence in the community. In the last ten years, though the goals have remained the same, the auxiliary has evolved to meet the changing needs of the hospital and the community.
As an approved nonprofit organization, the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center has raised thousands of tax deductible dollars for the benefit of the residents of Lakewood Ranch and Manatee County. Funds are raised each year by hosting a variety of hospital lobby shows that are open to the public. Some of these events have been a one to two day jewelry sale, purse sale, scrubs sale, bedding sale, book sale and a yearly major fund raising event.
This year, the major event is Take to the Courts, a morning of instructional clinics with local tennis pros, luncheon, silent auction and raffles at the Meadows Country Club, October 10, 2015. It will be a fun day for tennis enthusiasts as well as non-players who enjoy just getting together on a Saturday in a beautiful setting to lunch for a good cause.
In 2015 funds raised by the auxiliary were distributed to the Community through approved organizations which provide services for the benefit of the health, safety and well being of children and families in our community.
This summer, the auxiliary chose Meals-on wheels Plus food bank to be the recipient of a donation of $25,000.00. School vacation break is the period when the school lunch program is unavailable to hungry children. During this time the food bank provides much needed food to children and families. $15,000.00 was given to the F.E.L.T. (Feeding Empty Little Tummies) backpack program.
